President Donald Trump made a rare appearance at the World Cup final in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday.

Trump arrives at stadium with marine one helicopter

The commander-in-chief touched down at the MetLife Stadium in his signature helicopter, Marine One, approximately 45 minutes before kickoff. The chopper flew over the stadium before landing nearby, garnering little to no reaction from the crowd.

Trump then settled into a glassed-in luxury section on the west side of the stadium, where he was seated alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino and other dignitaries, including Spain's King Felipe VI and former Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger.

First sitting us president to attend world cup final on home soil

This marked the first time a sitting US president has attended a World Cup final on American soil. In contrast, Trump's predecessor Bill Clinton did not appear at the 1994 World Cup tournament, with Vice President Al Gore presenting the trophy instead.

Trump's involvement in the 2022 World Cup has been limited, with this being his first match attendance. He did, however, present the trophy to Chelsea at last year's FIFA Club World Cup at the same stadium, drawing boos from the crowd.

This appearance is part of Trump's continued efforts to insert himself into high-profile sporting events since his reelection. He has attended several major competitions, including the Super Bowl, US Open, Daytona 500, Ryder Cup, and NBA finals.
