A three-run first inning set the tone as the Detroit Tigers roared past the St. Louis Cardinals 11-6 in a rain-shortened contest on Saturday.

Tigers go deep six times, led by kerry carpenter's 2-run shot
Kerry Carpenter, Zach McKinstry and Matt Vierling each cracked a two-run homer, driving in three runs apiece for the Tigers. Gleyber Torres added a solo blast, marking Detroit's first trio of home runs in a game since 2019. The Tigers had been homerless in their initial seven contests.
The game was halted after 8 1/3 innings due to a 40-minute rain delay. With the field deemed unplayable, the final out was not recorded.
Starting pitcher Jack Flaherty was charged with five runs on three hits and four walks over four-plus frames. He also plunked three batters with pitches. Reliever Brant Hurter (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief.
St. Louis' Jordan Walker led the charge with a 3-for-4 day, including a grand slam, and five RBIs. Cardinals starter Dustin May (0-2) gave up seven runs and seven hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Vierling's home run in the bottom of the eighth capped the scoring, securing the Tigers' fifth win in their last seven games.
