Police responded to reports of erratic driving and yelling around the 700 block of Highway 26 at approximately 11:30 a.m. Carter, identified as the suspect, had active warrants. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he accelerated, dragging one officer a short distance before being partially separated.
The situation quickly deteriorated. Carter then reportedly drove directly toward another officer, who narrowly avoided being struck. The chase then moved through North Richland Hills, Haltom City, and Watagua, with assistance from those departments.
The pursuit concluded at 12:41 p.m. when Carter was apprehended by Hurst police. He is now charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, evading in a vehicle, resisting arrest, and possession of a controlled substance, in addition to the existing warrants.
The incident underscores the escalating risks faced by law enforcement during vehicle pursuits and the unpredictable nature of confrontations.
The officer who was dragged sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was released.
Carter's arrest brings a volatile Sunday to a close, leaving behind questions about the escalating dangers faced by first responders.
