Draper's Injury Woes Continue

The 24-year-old Briton displayed significant concern about his left arm during a changeover in the third set, with his serve speed noticeably reduced. Following the loss, questions are already being raised about his participation in the Cincinnati Open next week and his fitness for the upcoming US Open, scheduled to begin on August 30th in New York.

Draper’s recent struggles have included withdrawing from the DC Open in Washington last week, alongside his absence at Wimbledon. He previously achieved a career-high ranking of No. 4 last summer but has been hampered by injuries for much of the past year, spending considerable time on the sidelines.

Fearnley Advances, Alcaraz Withdraws

Fellow British player Jacob Fearnley advanced to the second round with a 7-4, 6-4 victory over Adrian Mannarino in Montreal. However, world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Masters, continuing his recovery from a wrist injury sustained in April. Alcaraz was aiming for a return at Cincinnati to prepare for the final Grand Slam of the year.
