Freshman goalie leads denver pioneers to third straight frozen four

University of Denver's freshman goalie Johnny Hicks made history this weekend, leading the Pioneers to their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Championship, also known as the Frozen Four.

Underdog story

Hicks wasn't even supposed to be a starter this season. Originally the third-string goalie going into the year, he stepped up after Quentin Miller suffered a lower-body injury in late January. Since then, Hicks has gone unbeaten, racking up 14 wins and one overtime loss in 15 starts, allowing just 20 goals.
