Ponder's tesla crashed, caught fire

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Ponder, who was driving his Tesla, veered off course on a curve and struck a guardrail. The vehicle then collided with an electrical line pole before rolling down an embankment, where it burst into flames.

First responders pronounced Ponder dead at the scene. An initial investigation suggests excessive speed as a contributing factor in the fatal crash.

The CU Athletics community is reeling from the sudden loss of a talented young athlete who embodied the team's values of leadership, passion, and dedication. Ponder, a 6-foot-5 sophomore from Florida, played in just two games last season after transferring to Colorado from Bethune-Cookman in 2024.

Cu coach Deion Sanders, close to Ponder, expressed his grief on social media, imploring followers to pray for the QB's family and loved ones.
