A sister's serene influence inspires a viral trend
The story begins with Sister Linda DeCero and Sister Marguerite, two Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia who have shared a life and a vocation since 1986. Sister Linda, a spirited Philadelphia native (and a passionate Phillies fan, as evidenced by her memorable decorated altar during the 2022 World Series), and Sister Marguerite, a native of Ireland with a preference for cheering on Neumann’s own athletic teams, have built a unique bond. But it's Sister Marguerite's understated presence – her consistent prayers and quietly encouraging words – that have resonated most deeply with students, particularly those involved in athletics. “She always motivates us,” recounts student-athlete Donte Dupriest, “telling us we’re going to be good. Just pray, you’ll be OK.” Many students credit her with helping them maintain eligibility and even improve their grades.
The idea for a bobblehead—inspired by the viral sensation of Sister Jean's bobblehead at Loyola University Chicago—stemmed from this profound impact. Each collectible figurine, priced at $60 in commemoration of Neumann’s 60th anniversary, captures Sister Marguerite’s essence, complete with a miniature cross and a delicate teacup—details reflecting her daily life. Deputy Athletic Director Gina McLaughlin reports that demand has been exceptionally strong.
