Riverside stabbing spree: suspect arrested in deadly attack
A 28-year-old man is in custody after a deadly stabbing spree outside the Riverside County Courthouse last Thursday, leaving two homeless individuals dead and prompting a city-wide investigation.
Two fatalities in downtown riverside
Police responded to a report of a person down near 12th Street and Main Street around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, discovering Richard Hindsa, 53, and Corrina Segovia, 57, suffering from fatal injuries. Both victims were known to be local homeless individuals who frequented the downtown area.
The suspect, identified as Cesar Aguirre, reportedly arrived in Riverside via an RTA bus that morning. According to police, Aguirre fatally stabbed Hindsa near 12th Street before continuing to 12th Street and Orange Street where he attacked Segovia. The motive remains unknown.
Aguirre was apprehended at his Riverside home and booked on two counts of murder, held on $2 million bail. Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez lauded the “expeditious actions” of the Robbery-Homicide Unit in bringing the suspect to justice.
“We praise the expeditious actions of all involved in this investigation. Specifically, our Robbery-Homicide Unit for working around the clock to bring this violent and dangerous predator to justice, protecting our vulnerable homeless community,” stated Chief Gonzalez.
