Oakland county approves drone pilot program despite resident concerns

Oakland County's Board of Commissioners has voted to approve a pilot program allowing the Sheriff's Office to use drones in emergency responses, despite strong opposition from residents.

A packed room at Wednesday's commissioner's meeting saw dozens of residents express their disapproval of the plan, which will see drones supplied by Flock Safety being used to aid the Sheriff's Office in responding to 911 calls.

Residents argued that the program would erode privacy and lead to a mass surveillance state, with one resident stating,
