Hooters staff fill purses with essentials for chicagoland women
Forget the usual spring cleaning; eight Chicago-area Hooters locations just launched a more meaningful initiative. Managers and “Hooter Girls” spent Monday, March 30th, filling 72 purses with hygiene products and inspirational notes – a tangible demonstration of support for women facing hardship.
A gesture beyond the wings and beer
The drive, orchestrated by HMC Hospitality Group Hooters in partnership with the nonprofit Love Purse, aimed to provide essential items to women in need and survivors of domestic violence. Purses, costing under $20, were packed with everything from feminine products and deodorant to slippers, socks, and even a little chocolate—small comforts meant to offer a sense of dignity and care. The collaboration underscores a growing trend: unexpected corporate outreach extending beyond traditional philanthropic avenues.
Love Purse, founded by Maria Castro in Riverside, Illinois, has been quietly collecting these care packages. Castro’s vision is simple, yet powerful: providing not just necessities, but a feeling of being remembered and valued. The 72 purses will be distributed through Metropolitan Family Services and WINGS Program Inc., two organizations dedicated to supporting domestic violence survivors and other vulnerable women in the Chicagoland area.
What’s particularly interesting is the grassroots nature of this effort. Joliet Hooters general manager Nicole Sancen initially conceived the partnership with Love Purse back in 2022, spearheading a collection that yielded 37 purses on its own. That initial success proved the model's viability—a testament to the power of local initiative within a larger franchise.
Denise Williams, HMC Hospitality Group's chief marketing officer, emphasized the significance of the gesture. “Purses can sometimes hold our most precious items,” she stated, “and we want to continue to help local women feel special and loved.” It’s a sentiment that resonates, particularly at a time when even seemingly small acts of kindness can have a profound impact.
