Commuters taking the John F. Kennedy International Airport AirTrain are facing another round of escalator woes at Jamaica Station.

The ascending escalator has been out of service for months, leaving travelers to navigate the station via elevators or a lengthy flight of stairs, reviving memories of a similar outage on the descending escalator in 2023.

While some have grown accustomed to the delays and opt for the elevator, others question the AirTrain's infrastructure given the $19 billion transformation of JFK, with Queens Borough President Donovan Richards calling for the station to be brought up to par with Penn Station.

A Port Authority spokesperson cited shipping delays from an international manufacturer, promising a refurbished escalator that should provide reliable service for years to come, with repairs expected to be complete by the busy summer travel season.

As commuters continue to navigate the inconvenience, Richards highlighted a $50 million commitment from Governor Kathy Hochul to modernize Jamaica Station.
