Caltrans closes 19th avenue in sf for major repaving
San Francisco drivers, beware: Caltrans is shutting down 19th Avenue for three weekends this spring to perform extensive roadwork.
n
Three major closures planned
nThe agency will close northbound lanes between Sloat Boulevard and Lincoln Way from April 24 to 27, then again from May 8 to 11. The biggest closure will occur over Memorial Day weekend, with both north and southbound lanes shut down from May 22 to 25.
nDuring the work, two lanes will be fully closed, while a single lane remains open for public transit, emergency responders, and local street access. Parking on 19th Avenue will be restricted to work zones, with parking allowed on side streets.
nCaltrans crews will repave all northbound and southbound lanes between Lincoln Way and Holloway Avenue during the closures. The agency claims this three-weekend approach will reduce the overall impact on drivers from 40 days to just 10.
nTo navigate the closures, Caltrans recommends two detours: one via Junipero Serra Boulevard and another via Brotherhood Way. Drivers should be prepared for significant delays and plan accordingly.
