Jeep driver flees after rear-ending police cruiser on detroit freeway

A 29-year-old Detroit woman is being sought by Michigan State Police after she rear-ended a patrol car on the Lodge Freeway in Detroit Sunday night, triggering a multi-vehicle incident that stretched across three lanes.

The incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway near Shaefer Highway. According to police, a trooper was investigating a separate crash when their patrol car was struck from behind.

The impact sent the patrol car colliding with the concrete wall on the right shoulder. The Jeep then veered across three lanes before slamming into a median barrier.

First Lieutenant Mike Shaw reported that the trooper involved was evaluated at the scene and released, but was transported to a hospital as a precaution. The driver exited the vehicle and fled, prompting a search.

This incident adds to a string of recent car crashes plaguing the Detroit metropolitan area. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the collision and the driver's reasons for fleeing.

The freeway was temporarily disrupted, causing significant traffic delays. The investigation is ongoing.
