Trooper injured in i-94 crash: intoxicated driver suspected
A Michigan State Police trooper sustained non-life-threatening injuries early Monday when a driver allegedly under the influence plowed into her patrol car on I-94 near Romulus. The crash occurred around 1:10 a.m. on westbound I-94, just west of Merriman Road. According to authorities, the driver of a 2013 Lincoln MKZ lost control, striking the marked patrol vehicle—emergency lights and “pot lights” already activated—before colliding with two other vehicles. The trooper was extracted from her vehicle by Romulus firefighters and subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. Remarkably, no other injuries were reported.
The 32-year-old driver is now in custody, facing charges related to driving under the influence. A blood draw was performed at a local hospital, the results of which are pending. First Lt. Mike Shaw of the MSP issued a statement emphasizing the preventable nature of the incident. “We were extremely lucky that there were only minor injuries in this preventable crash,” he stated.
