Beau the labrador saves his owner's life

When David Howarth collapsed on a beach in Poole, Dorset, his loyal labrador Beau sprang into action, alerting strangers who helped save his life.

Beau's heroic efforts triggered a chain of events

David, a 70-year-old, had gone for a run with Beau on a chilly winter morning in 2024. After splashing through the frigid waters, David sprinted along the sand, with Beau bounding happily beside him. But everything changed in an instant as David crumpled to the ground, his heart having stopped.

Beau, sensing his owner's distress, frantically jumped up and down, barked loudly, and ran circles around David's slumped form. His frantic activity caught the attention of Claire Dashwood, a healthcare worker walking nearby with her partner. Claire rushed over to find David blue and freezing, his body going limp.

Without hesitation, Claire began CPR while Beau eagerly licked her face, seemingly urging her to keep going. Soon, two doctors who were out for a stroll with their dog happened upon the scene and joined Claire in keeping David's blood flowing until paramedics arrived.

David was rushed to Bournemouth Hospital, where a defibrillator was implanted near his heart. A week later, when he was reunited with Beau, the joyful reunion brought tears to David's eyes.

Today, David wears a tattoo of a dog paw over the defibrillator in his chest to symbolize his eternal gratitude for Beau's heroism and the kindness of strangers who helped save his life.
